Replacement of a 1956 modernist house kitchen in Melbourne. The design calls for a sympathetic response whilst modernizing the kitchen to contemporary standards, all within the original footprint. New overhead cupboards utilize the existing horizontal window framing, heightening the experience of openness above and below whilst solving the exhaust problem. The new black beams gives the kitchen more spatial definition, ties back to the rhythm of the existing structure and act as the housing for the overhead lights. Primary colours were used to compliment the colour scheme for the rest of the house.
