competition entry in collaboration with Andrew Maynard

An urban renewal ideas competition for an existing railyard in central Osaka, Japan. The site is located at 'Umeda', originally meaning 'reclaimed fields', used to be swamplands with canals, bridges, temples and graveyards.

Our proposal is a 'landscape of buildings' with interconnected roof top fields, sliced by the mapping of surrounding street conditions to maximize urban permeability. The buildings are to reflect the memory of 'containers' that had been associated with the site.

Central to the scheme is a contemporary arts centre that is to form the focal point in the development both inside and out.
