The clients wanted to convert the small brick garage of their 1930s house with art-deco details into a rumpus room for the children. They also wanted to have a spa in the garden.

We relish the charm of the existing garage structure and realize that it is possible to retain most of it by simply reversing the pitch of the roof to let in more light, and to open up one of the bays between engage piers to establish a visual connection to a large eucalyptus tree on the other corner of the property by the use of a bay window.

We also felt that the spa area should be integrated to the new rumpus area. By designing an above ground timber clad enclosure accessible only by a few steps, we have eliminated the need for unsightly pool fencing whilst providing a seating area for outdoor activities.
