Renovation of a two bedroom apartment within a typical 60’s flat building with fantastic views over Tamarama beach in Sydney. The design reflects the clients’ love of the combination of beach, surfing and travelling. Material choice evokes such memory whilst creating a simple and contemporary backdrop for the various artwork collected during their travels.

By removing an existing vermiculite ceiling bulkhead that concealed plumbing pipes from the dwelling above, we were able to increase the height of the ceiling. The plumbing pipes have been boxed in and transformed into strategic lighting elements, creating a special place at the entry. Upon entry, one is guided by the coat cupboard, glass screen and sculpture to a position that best frames the view the apartment offers.

A strategic removal of wall and replacement with glass above the bedroom joinery allows much needed natural light into the previously totally enclosed bathroom.
