The planning for this extension to a 4 room cottage takes on the clients’ interest in permaculture, which requires a variety of landscapes for different crops and conditions. Coupled with Classical Chinese garden planning techniques to create a rich variety of interior and exterior spaces, utilizing all parts of the site and facilitating each room with a different garden.

As the clients are keen on outdoor activities, the design for the addition itself draws its inspiration from mountains, huts and tents. It creates a ‘terrain’ of platforms with storage below that can be used in different ways without traditional furniture.
